Last Tuesday, at PRISMA Lab we had the honor of hosting Tracy Roberts-Pounds, U.S. Consul General in Naples, accompanied by Antonella Di Vaio, Public Engagement Specialist.

Professor Bruno Siciliano gave a presentation introducing Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II (UniNa) / University of Naples Federico II, the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology and PRISMA Lab.
He highlighted the lab’s extensive portfolio of European projects including the recent European Research Council (ERC) Synergy Grant EndoTheranostics project, and the books  that are considered milestones in the field: the textbook “Robotics” with its associated MOOC courses  Federica Web Learning – Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II/ edX and the award-winning “Springer Handbook of Robotics” Springer Nature co-edited with Professor Oussama Khatib from Stanford University.

During his talk, Professor Siciliano also presented the recent editorial project “Robotics Goes MOOC” with Springer and Federica Web Learning. He emphasized the four paradigms that have inspired the four volumes of the collection:
Knowledge | Design | Interaction | Impact. Remarkably, these paradigms have inspired the mission of the Stanford Robotics Center ️ that was launched last November, confirming their relevance in the global robotics landscape.

The visit concluded with live demonstrations, featuring:

the Unitree humanoid robot H1 and quadruped robot with wheels Go2-W, the KUKA LWR arm for the execution of a non-prehensile manipulation task, and the drone x8 for the execution of a non-destructive testing task with ultrasonic measurements tested in the high-voltage room.

The event was also a good opportunity to discuss about research perspectives, technology transfer, entrepreneurship and start-ups in robotics in the US vs Italy.
